Good finds from (not so) frumpy stores: Eileen Fisher

I overheard a woman today (I’d say early 30s) confiding in her friend that she was wearing a scarf from, gasp, Eileen Fisher. The friend chuckled and vowed to keep her dirty little secret. It’s disappointing that this designer now carries the stigma of being less than contemporary. I find her clothes to be amazingly well-made, versatile, and indeed on-trend. I have clients who are hesitant to even look at items from Eileen Fisher for fear they will be considered frumpy and out-of-date. Well, I wholeheartedly disagree.

Below are three EF looks compared to runway styles from designers considered to be more hip. Note how Eileen Fisher is taking these trends and making them totally wearable without sacrificing on style.

black on black

(Vera Wang Fall 2010)

laid-back neutrals

(Vince Spring 2011)

sweaters and sequins

(J. Crew Fall 2010)

And for more reason to re-embrace Eileen, check out the Starring our Staff section of the site. It’s a really nifty video showing off the versatility of their pieces modeled by real employees (of varying ages and sizes).
